Dooars

The Dooars (or Duars) are the fertile, alluvial floodplains and foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, stretching across northeastern India and southern Bhutan. The name originates from the Bengali and Nepali word 'Duar', meaning "door" or "gateway", as the region historical serves as the gateway between India and Bhutan, featuring 18 entry passages. Spanning a width of about 30 km and a length of 350 km, this scenic landscape extends from the Teesta River in West Bengal to the Dhansiri River in Assam. The Sankosh River naturally divides the region into the Western Dooars (Bengal Dooars) and the Eastern Dooars
